#1 Behind the Screens

Stinking nappies, heaped unwashed dishes, and jigsaw puzzle pieces hitting my laptop mouse. That’s how I start off our first blog post and that’s how we started off this adventure into the world of business. This is who we are and now we embark on this blogging journey to unveil what’s behind the scenes at nappycakes.mt.

Jon and I are both 30 years of age, got married in 2016 and now have three little kids, Mattea (3), Luke (2) and tiny 8 weeks old Mark. Quality time was always our main point of discussion and we had long decided I would be a stay-at-home mum. But we always believed that Jon’s nine to five job hardly left space for errands and house chores to be done, let alone killing precious time with those he loved. After all, time away from home is time away from those you love and a relationship is as good as the time and effort you put into it. So we tried our very best to reduce Jon’s working hours but this was to no success. We had to be the answer to our own requests.

Looking a bit back, as a child, I grew up in my father’s little business, adjacent to our house. The fully stacked shelving, the smell of carton boxes, and the mumbling voices of sales persons in and out of the garage are still so tangible to me, even though 14 years have passed since he closed doors. The world of business is not only a passion rooted deep within my heart but also a love language my father and I created to bond. And this was something I dreamt for our kids. 

And as they say, necessity is the mother of invention. My passion for business had long been brewing within and now things were pressing on. Soon a eureka formula hit all the right-moment buttons. Jon resigned his job in November 2019 and off we started working on this little business now called nappycakes.mt, opening our virtual doors on May 9th 2020 and we look forward to all yet to come.
